MY JOB IS IN DEMAND, NOW WHAT?

Check into whether or not you need a visa to work in Germany, and if yes, which type

Who doesn’t require a visa? Citizens of the European Union’s (EU) 26 member states are free to live and work anywhere in the Schengen area.

Who requires a visa? To work in Germany, all non-European citizens (including those from the United Kingdom) must get a visa. A tourist visa allows citizens of certain nations to enter the country and stay for 90 days. You are not permitted to work during this period, although you may look for work and/or apply for a visa. Citizens of foreign nations must apply for a visa before visiting Germany, which complicates and prolongs the process.

If you are not a citizen of the EU, consult Germany’s visa laws to learn about your individual circumstances. Once you’ve determined whether or not you require a visa, you can determine which visa is ideal for you. You could be eligible for a Blue Card, a regular work permit, or even a job seeker visa.

Each visa has its own set of requirements, with many needing confirmation of a university diploma or vocational training. If you do not have a degree but have relevant work experience and/or skills, an immigration lawyer may be able to assist you in obtaining a visa. If a company has made you an offer, you can engage with their HR team to build a persuasive case that will help you get your visa accepted.

Determine if further education is required and if yes, what you need to do

You may be very well educated and have years of relevant work experience in the above-mentioned in-demand professions. But that doesn’t imply you can just show up in Germany and start working straight immediately.

Many professions, such as law, nursing, and teaching, demand that your professional credentials (Berufsqualifikation) be formally recognized in Germany. The Central Office for International Education (ZAB) evaluates international qualifications in Germany. If your qualifications are not recognized, you may be required to take an assessment test or a conversion course to demonstrate your qualifications. It should be noted that qualifications differ depending on the German state. If you’re having trouble getting your qualifications recognized, there’s still hope. Figure out if German fluency is required and if yes, how much

While there are some English-speaking occupations in Berlin, and English is becoming a more prevalent language in the workplace, German is required for 96% of all jobs in Germany.

There is no way around it. Some professions, as well as some businesses, demand fluency in the German language. Investigate the prerequisites for your vocation. Examine job postings to evaluate how stringent the language requirements are. For example, software developers may not need to speak German to obtain work, whereas nurses must be fluent in the language.

Determine the best German city or region for your profession

While this website is about relocating to Berlin and finding a job, it is possible that Berlin is not the right city or location for you. For example, you may have a better chance of obtaining a job in Stuttgart, Munich, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, or Hamburg.

Use Google like a master and type in “best German cities to work as an insert profession here>.” Typically, the results will contain a wealth of valuable and interesting content. You can also compare several German cities on job platforms such as Xing, LinkedIn, or Indeed. For example, there may be 500 open positions in Munich but only 75 in Berlin.

Keep in mind that if your firm provides remote work, it may be possible to live in a city like Berlin while working for a company situated somewhere in Germany. Check with your company to discover what possibilities are available. All of this information will help you determine which areas of Germany have the finest career opportunities.
