Canada Relaxes English Language Requirements For Student Visas: The English test requirements for students applying through the Study Direct Stream (SDS) program have been significantly changed by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
Beginning August 10, 2023, applicants will be able to submit English language results from several examinations.
The Canadian English Language Competency Index Program (CELPIP) General, Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) Test, Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic, and Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) iBT are currently accepted language competency assessments. This expansion gives international students more options and freedom.
PTE and TOEFL are particularly well-known in Canada and other nations. PTE is advantageous for students wishing to study in Australia, but TOEFL is approved by places such as the United States, Canada, New Zealand, and the majority of universities in the United Kingdom.
In addition, the criterion for IELTS Academic test takers has changed. Individuals were formerly required to attain a minimum score of 6.0 in all individual bands of the test. However, this is no longer required.
The only criterion now is a minimum overall band score of 6.0, with no minimum scores for individual skills (reading, listening, writing, and speaking).
These modifications are intended to make the application process more accessible and accommodating for overseas students interested in studying in Canada.
