Financial Coverage Sponsorships of Rhodes Scholarships

In the first instance, Rhodes Scholarships are for two years. The Rhodes Scholarships cover tuition at Oxford University (and College) as well as an annual stipend with the following additional benefits:

  • The stipend for the 2023-2024 academic year will be £15,900 per year (£1,325 per month), from which Scholars will pay all living expenses, including housing.
  • Please keep in mind that this does not cover partners or dependents.
  • Following selection for the Scholarship, the Rhodes Trust will pay the application cost to the University of Oxford. The Trust will pay for the Tier 4 study visa fee as well as the International Health Surcharge (IHS), which allows international students to use the UK’s National Health Service.
  • The Rhodes Trust will pay for two economy-class flights to and from the United Kingdom at the start and finish of their study in Oxford.
  • Scholars get a settling-in payment upon arriving in Oxford (£225 in 2023-2024). Scholars who progress to the second course of study in Oxford will be reimbursed for the fee for visa renewal and additional application for IHS.
  • On application, Rhodes Scholars can also receive a number of research funds, which allow them to attend foreign conferences or perform further fieldwork.

Rhodes Scholarships Eligibility Criteria

With the following eligibility rules in effect, each Rhodes scholarship applicant must fulfill the citizenship and residency requirements of the Rhodes constituency for which they are applying:

  • The Rhodes Scholarships constituencies (and nations) are listed on the Rhodes Scholarships constituencies webpage. The eligibility conditions for each constituency Scholarship are contained in the Information for Candidates document, which may be accessed by selecting the appropriate constituency from the drop-down list of nations on the ‘How to Apply’ homepage.
  • You must have finished (or will complete) an undergraduate degree with a GPA of 3.7 or better, or the academic level equivalent in your country.

  • The vast majority of applicants will be able to apply for Rhodes Scholarships through only one constituency. A limited number of people will match the qualifying criteria for more than one constituency, and because they can only apply for one Rhodes Scholarship per year, they will have to make a decision.
  • The age limit varies in each constituency, ranging from 19 to a maximum of 27 years.

Documents Required for Rhodes Scholarship Application

Scholarships for Rhodes Scholars The applicant must provide the following documents with their application:

  • A Statement of Purpose (SOP) (300-500 words) must be drafted.
  • Scholarship Letter of Intent.
