- Conducts focused surveillance for healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), detects and records HAIs on a systematic and current basis, analyses HAIs, and prepares reports for the facility or ambulatory setting’s Infection Control Committee. Reports communicable diseases in accordance with regulations.
- When problems are identified, makes recommendations. In collaboration with the Manager, interprets department policies and procedures.
- As a consultant, interacts with physicians, nurses, department managers, supervisors, and other professional and nonprofessional staff members.
- Data entry into a computer, report preparation, analytical studies, and data stigmatization are all responsibilities of this position.
- Launches epidemiological investigations into significant clusters of infections as well as single cases of unusual infection.
- Assists departments with ongoing infection control education and in-service programmers, including new employee orientation.
- Examines and assists in the evaluation of hospital infection control policies, procedures, and guidelines. Assists in the development and revision of infection control policies and procedures.
- Makes construction, renovation, and environmental recommendations, and ensures compliance with national and/or professional standards.
- All functions are carried out in accordance with established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, and applicable professional standards. - Requires A bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in nursing or a related healthcare field is required.
- Clinical experience in a healthcare setting of at least two years is required. A current Registered Nurse (RN) license is required, as is a Masters in Public Health (MPH) or a Certified Medical Technologist.
- Basic infection control training is required (includes attendance at an approved formalized infection control basic training program).
- Within two years of hire, you must be eligible to sit for the Certification in Infection Control (CIC) exam. CIC certification must be obtained within one year of eligibility.
- A master’s degree in a related field is required.
- Current Registered Nurse license
- Valid CIC Certification
- Computer skills, research abilities, and fundamental statistical knowledge are required.
- Additional education and/or experience in a related field is preferred.
