Dir, Clinical Chemistry & POC Jobs US at Phoenix Children’s, Provider Recruitment: The entire quality, legal compliance, and business operations in these areas fall under the purview of the Director of Core Chemistry and Point of Care. In addition to hiring and managing a technical staff with experience, the Director of Core Chemistry and Point of Care also collaborates with the supervisors of the Chemistry division and Point of Care to update policies and provide continuing education to uphold best practices. The Director is in charge of creating new techniques and procedures as well as continuing to carry out clinical tests in compliance with all CLIA and CAP standards. The Director also consults with the laboratory and medical staff regarding the interpretation of chemistry tests performed within the division.

Additionally, in compliance with CMS regulations and federal law, this person will carry out CLIA Laboratory Director duties for one or more clinical laboratories at Main Campus and/or Network of Care, as assigned by the Division Chief and hospital administrative leadership. With an emphasis on quality, regulatory compliance, and technical operations, the Laboratory Director is responsible for the overall management and administration of the laboratory.

Education

  • According to CLIA rules and CAP accreditation, a clinical pathologist (MD or DO), doctoral-level scientist (Ph.D.), or equivalent is qualified to hold laboratory licensing. (Required)
  • Fellowship education and board certification in the clinical chemistry specialization (Preferred)
  • Any degree or qualification that improves laboratory leadership abilities, such as an MBA or MHA (Preferred)

Experience

  • Experience in moderate to high complexity testing, laboratory-developed testing, method development, and performance verification of clinical chemistry testing systems and platforms. (Required)
  • gained through at least three years of experience at the director level (Required)
  • seasoned pathologist or scientist with at least five years of experience working in a clinical chemistry lab (Preferred)
  • knowledge of Lean/Six Sigma (Preferred)
  • Pre-analytical and laboratory informatics expertise and interest (Preferred)

Certifications

  • Board certification in Clinical Pathology or another clinical laboratory science field at the Ph.D. level (Required)
  • certification as a board-certified clinical chemist from the American Board of Pathology, the American Board of Clinical Chemistry, or a comparable certifying body. (Preferred)

Unique Skills

  • Strong written and vocal communication skills, as well as good customer service abilities, both inside and outside the department. To efficiently manage operations, finances, and staff, leadership abilities are necessary. Effective problem-solving, organizing and performance-improving abilities are necessary. Conflict management and negotiation abilities. (Required)
  • understanding of the rules and requirements of the Joint Commission, CAP, CLIA, and CMS’s current understanding of cutting-edge point-of-care and clinical chemistry techniques. (Required)
  • instruction in lab informatics. Lean/Six Sigma and laboratory quality improvement training. (Preferred)
