Clarendon Scholarship in UK 2023 is a fully-funded scholarship for international students at the University of Oxford. This award is available for doctoral and master’s-level study. This award covers the full cost of tuition and provides a minimum £15,009 annual stipend for living expenses.
Clarendon is one of the largest scholarship systems at the university, providing approximately 140 new awards annually. The Clarendon Scholarships are highly coveted, prestigious, and competitive.
Class sizes are smaller and of higher caliber in Oxford’s graduate programs than in many other countries, allowing for rapid professional growth. Our graduate research strategy emphasizes your ability to operate independently while being supported by a distinguished academic community. The majority of Clarendon’s academics are collaborating on a DPhil (the title at Oxford for a PhD). Scholarships are also available for two-year (like MPhil or BPhil) and one-year (like MSc, MSt, MBA, or MFE) degrees.

- The recipient of a Clarendon Scholarship receives the following advantages:
- All Clarendon Scholarships cover the total amount of tuition and college fees.
- In 2023–24, scholars enrolled in a full-time program will receive an annual stipend of at least £15,009 to cover their living expenses. Eligibility Criteria for Clarendon Scholarship
To be eligible for the Clarendon Scholarship, a candidate must meet each of the requirements listed below.

- All degree-bearing courses at the graduate level are eligible.
- Courses leading to a postgraduate certificate or diploma are ineligible for this award.

- Candidates seeking to begin a new master’s or doctoral program at Oxford are eligible. This includes students who are currently pursuing a master’s degree at Oxford but who intend to reapply for a DPhil (you would be eligible for funding for the DPhil).
- Applicants with deferred offers to begin in 2023–2024 are ineligible for consideration for this scholarship.
- Current students who will continue to pursue the same degree at Oxford the following year are ineligible for this award.
How to Apply for Clarendon Scholarship?
To apply for the Clarendon Scholarship, please comply with the following instructions:
For your course to be considered for a Clarendon scholarship, you must apply by the relevant January deadline.
The academics working in your intended field of study will evaluate your application to the course. Your application will be evaluated for academic merit and appropriateness.
- The department will make the final determination and notify you of the outcome regarding your graduate placement. Details are available in the decision timeline.
- In parallel, the academics in your department will determine, based on the selection criteria, who to recommend to the division for a Clarendon scholarship.
- The process varies between the academic divisions of the university and the Department of Continuing Education, but both meet in February or March to evaluate departmental scholarship nominations.
- The academic divisions evaluate the nominations based on their academic merit and future potential, and the division’s highest-ranked departmental nominees are shortlisted for Clarendon.
- Once the final list is made, the administrator of the Clarendon Fund will get in touch with the successful applicants and send them a letter offering them a scholarship.
- If you are offered and accept a Clarendon scholarship, your funding is now secure, provided you meet the conditions of your Oxford admissions offer.
- During the months of April and May, scholars are matched with Clarendon Partnership Awards based on the criteria for each award. Offer holders are not required to provide any additional information.
- Once each student’s unique funding package has been confirmed, they will receive a letter detailing the funding arrangements. In addition to partnership awards, the final college placements will also be confirmed.
- Emails will be sent to all successful Clarendon applicants. Each year, by early April, the majority of offers are sent out.
- Due to the number of qualified applicants, unsuccessful students will not be contacted. Please assume that you have not been awarded a Clarendon scholarship if we have not contacted you by June.
- If nominated students withdraw, a few late nominations may occur during the summer, but this is extremely uncommon.
