Job Duties of a Cherry Orchard Trainee/ Agricultural Worker at Hortnivest
- Doing things like weeding, picking rocks, hoeing weeds, racking old leaves, loosening the soil around the plants, leveling the ground, fixing fences, moving, and setting posts for orchard fences.
- Getting fruit from the fields and gardens
- Sort out the bad and broken pieces from the good ones.
- Put each kind of fruit in its own box.
- The bags have labels.
- Weighing each box of fruit before putting it on the truck
- Growing and trimming cherry trees by hand
- Pickers have to be able to pick at least 16.5 bushels an hour.
- Must be able to physically climb a ladder and move it around a field.
- As the picked fruit will be put in a molded-plastic, canvas-covered picking bucket with canvas straps that rest on the shoulders, it may cause friction-related injuries to the body.
- Workers need to be skilled and taught to do manual tasks correctly and quickly.
- A worker should be ready to work in an environment that exposes them to allergens, pesticides, extreme temperatures, and light rain.
